Help with Zork

I am having some difficulties making progress in the game..I find that when I think I am progressing, I end up at yet another dead end. One thing that would really help though, is, the command that needs to be typed in order to "refresh" what and where you are. I thought it was "verbose" but each time I type that in, the only response I get is "maximum verbosity". Also, I don’t know if anyone else has made it to a cliff, with rock, but I seem to be getting stuck climbing up and down the cliff. In desperate need of some help...

Also, this is something I learned about myself while playing the game. I didn’t realize how visual I am, until a game like this challenges me to return to my childhood years and use my imagination. While I enjoy the freedom the game gives, I find myself very frustrated trying to keep the visual storyline straight in my mind. Does anyone else find this problem?

I guess that's why it's a narrative, you have to use your imagination to give it a physical image.

The command you are looking for is "look". You can look at things with that command, and just typing it will describe the area where you are standing currently.

And if you are hitting dead ends in the maze, I think that's just the tough part about it. It's quite frustrating.

Most of you probably realize this by now, but just to continue what Jessica is saying while responding to Joy - you want to make a map. That will help a lot with many things, including (maybe) the fact that it's impossible to visualize it...

Hey Joy, I think I can help you as I, too, had some problems in the beginning.

Were you in class when we went over how to go through the beginning? Well, in any case, remember the house? Get to the side of the house w/ a slightly ajar window; open it up and go inside. There, you'll find some stuff and a big rug; move the rug and go downstairs. Oh, and don't forget to turn on your lamp :D... That ought to get you going.

I should post a blog entry with all the comedy responses I get from the computer. Has anyone tried to climb the impassable mountains? Or open the jeweled egg in the forest? Or ran in circles in every direction trying to get into the goddamn house?

I can't see it, and this is crippling.
