Thank you! I thought I was the only one who cared that this happened!

When I was working the bar this morning (at Starbucks) I was talking to customers and nobody seemed to understand how much this guy matters in modern culture. Geekdom isn't just a subculture anymore that meets in basements and wears capes to class (though there are still some of those). And a lot of that has to do with the creation and subsequent rehashing and ripping of D&D.

One of my coworkers hadn't even HEARD of D&D!

But I mean, the way Adam teaches it, this was pretty much the beginning of an entire genre. Every single RPG game anyone plays now has its roots here, even the ones that have absolutely nothing to do with fantasy. Books and movies (even though the actual D&D movie was garbage) and... I mean, I don't want to exaggerate (even though I'm gonna) but it could even be argued that the Harry Potter phenomenon would not have been near as world-altering if it had not been for D&D setting the stage for that kind of... rabid fantasy following. Also JRR Tolkien, but that's moving away from my point.

So. In conclusion, I am teh sads.

Has anyone seen the Futurama episode which stars Gary Gygax and Al Gore? Even for Futurama, it's brilliant.

Actually, even though I haven't played since I was a teenager, this has me wondering what exactly would be necessary to get administrators to accept a class focused on D&D. If I pulled that one off, I could die happy.
